Round Rock ISD students in grades 3–8 received higher passing rate scores than the state average State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR.
According to preliminary results released June 10 by the Texas Education Agency, RRISD students in eighth grade received a 95 percent passing rate for reading compared to the state's percentage rate of 89. Fifth graders received a 94 percent passing rate in math, compared to the state average of 87 percent.
Superintendent Jess Chvez said in a news release that he is proud of the hard work of the district's students and teachers.
"We strive for high passing rates and a narrowing of achievement gaps," he said.
The high school end-of-course exams revealed that RRISD students received a 100 percent passing rate in both algebra II and physics, compared to statewide passing rates of 97.1 percent and 81.8 percent, respectively.
Martha Salazar-Zamora, the district's deputy superintendent for instruction and administration, said that STAAR and EOC scores were increased three percent from 2011–12 in grade three reading, grade 4 math, grade 8 math and reading. She said the district will focus on improving writing scores and skills for the 2013–14 school year.
