Sun City Memorial Day Ceremony
Sun City hosted the 10th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony on May 27 at the Georgetown-Williamson County Veterans Memorial Plaza. The plaza was rededicated during the ceremony.
Sgt. Maj. of the Army Raymond F. Chandler III was the event's keynote speaker. Chandler serves as the Army chief of staff's personal adviser on all enlisted-related matters, including those affecting the training and quality of life of soldiers.
The ceremony recognized veterans in attendance and paid tribute to those who lost their lives while in military service.
The Texas Army National Guard 36th Infantry Division Band provided music during the ceremony.
Seeds of Strength grant awards
Seeds of Strength, a women's giving circle, awarded $121,000 in grants to nine Georgetown-area nonprofits at a ceremony May 2 at the Georgetown Public Library.
Grants given ranged from $5,000–$21,000 and will be used to help further programs in Georgetown.
The grants were award to: Boys & Girls Club of Georgetown, Brookwood in Georgetown, Capital IDEA, Girlstart, Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County, Hope Alliance, The Palace Theater, Williamson-Burnet County Opportunities and Williamson County Children's Advocacy Center.
Seeds of Strength was founded in 2009 by 13 women in Georgetown.
Georgetown Chamber of Commerce golf tournament
The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual golf tournament May 17 to help raise money for the chamber.
More than 140 people played a round of golf and enjoyed lunch and dinner at Sun City's Cowan Creek Golf Club during the event.
Prizes for the top two teams, as well as the team that came in last place, were given.
