The Tomball ISD school board identified Huey Kinchen as the district's next Superintendent of Schools at its May 14 meeting. Kinchen will be replacing John P. Neubauer, who announced his retirement in January.

Kinchen served as the principal of Tomball High School from 1999 to 2004. He then served as the district's assistant superintendent until 2009, when he became the deputy superintendent.

Board members cited Kinchen's experience within the district, as well as his commitment to maintain TISD's high standards, as reasons for why he was selected.

"I believe I have the knowledge of the district, excellent working relationships with staff and a connection with the Tomball community and their expectations," Kinchen said.

Kinchen said his focus moving forward will be to continue the traditions established by Neubauer, the previous superintendent, while always looking to make progress. In particular, he said the most important things are continuing to bring in the most talented faculty and staff and maintain good relationships with city and county institutions.

"Our goal has always been to have 100 percent success of all students," he said. "I'm confident we'll accomplish that."

Kinchen said he is honored and excited to take on this opportunity.

"This is the school district that people want to come to," he said. "We are on sound footing academically and financially. I'm stepping into a best case scenario."

Kinchen will be official hired as the district superintendent July 1.
