Lounge cars where Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra once entertained will be part of the Grapevine Vintage Railroad.
The City Council approved $60,000 for the purchase at its April 2 meeting, plus another $30,000 for moving the cars from East Texas to Grapevine. They will be moved by truck because the track they sit on is no longer connected to a main line.
The three cars are owned by Ben Garrett Jr. and have been on a ranch for 40 years. They have room for dancing, and were used in the 1940s, '50s and '60s between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The additional rolling stock will allow the Grapevine Vintage Railroad to host more group meetings, receptions and chartered events.
Michael Woody of the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau said the cars need brake work that can be done by employees at the vintage railroad.
