The Round Rock ISD board of trustees discussed the process for replacing trustee Glen Colby at its April 9 meeting.

Colby, Place 6, submitted his resignation on April 5 and cited the time demands of board service as his reason for stepping down.

"I'm truly torn between my sworn obligation to this district and my much older obligation as a father to my children," Colby said in his resignation letter.

Catherine Hanna, RRISD board of trustees president, said she is disappointed Colby is resigning, but understands he wants to spend time with his family.

Bill Bingham, the district's legal counsel, said that Colby must serve on the board until the trustees appoint a new member to his position and that an election will need to be held in November.

Bingham said that in the past, the board accepted applications and conducted interviews with 12 candidates, but it will be up to the board how to proceed.

Trustee Diane Cox recommended choosing a candidate who is knowledgeable about the district.

"Certainly we're going into a superintendent search, so we want to make sure that it's somebody that will not have a big learning curve," Cox said.

The board made no decisions about the process for replacing Colby, and will continue its discussion at its April 18 meeting.
