Open Road Biker Church held its first service at a coffee shop in 2009. In 2012, it expanded to open a location at 8420 N. I-35 that now hosts more than 120 worship participants each Sunday.

Pastor Butch Horton started Open Road after the Baptist General Convention of Texas approached him about establishing a nontraditional church in the area. Horton decided to combine his love of motorcycle riding with a Christian ministry.

In the 3 1/2 years since the church opened, Horton has baptized approximately 80 people. The church will continue its outreach by offering free camping to participants of Republic of Texas Biker Rally, an annual biker rally that is scheduled to be in June, and continuing its weekly programs and services, Horton said.

"We're going to let them camp on our property for free in the hopes that we get to share the gospel," Horton said. "My personal goal ... is to see more people come to a saving faith and see the Lord increase our ministries and our mission scope."
