The Texas Department of Transportation has added I-35 to its real-time mapping system, DriveTexas, which shows issues affecting traffic such as accidents, construction, road closures or weather.

The online mapping software shows detailed information by allowing users to zoom in on a particular road and click on the map. Users can also find real-time information regarding closures on frontage roads, ramps and cross streets by visiting www.drivetexas.org or www.txdot.gov. The tool is available for desktop computers or mobile devices.

"DriveTexas is the agency's newest software that provides real-time, statewide highway conditions to help drivers get to their destinations safely," TxDOT spokeswoman Veronica Beyer said. "The goal of DriveTexas is to improve public safety by letting motorists know where they can expect to encounter work zone closures, major construction and other delays so they can be better prepared, or in some cases, seek alternate routes."

Beyer said the system reports conditions on every state-maintained highway in Texas, including Interstates, U.S. and state highways, farm to market and ranch to market roads. The DriveTexas mapping tool was launched June 1, she said.

Drivers may also access existing traffic and highway conditions by calling TxDOT's Interactive Voice Response System at 1-800-452-9292.
