Plumbers in business more than 20 years

At Brittain Plumbing, all work is done according to the Golden Rule.

Steve and Cindy Brittain opened the company in 1985 and have spent the past 27 years stopping leaks, fixing pipes and installing faucets just the way they would want repairs done in their own home.

"I don't have a motto. I just try to do things the way I would do them in my house," Steve said. "That's always the way I looked at it."

Brittain Plumbing is a Georgetown original and has watched the city develop for nearly three decades. As it grows, so does Brittain's clientele, but the company keeps a loyal base.

"I have people come in and [say] they're [the] only plumbers they'll use in town, they've been using them for years, and that's all they want to use," company secretary Joanne Temple said.

The base keeps business booming. Temple estimated she takes 50–60 calls per day.

Steve works in the field while Cindy runs the office. The couple offers plumbing services, including emergency calls. Their office also sells a wide variety of retail products, including faucets, sinks and tubs.

The showroom is not just for sales, either. It serves as a classroom where the Brittains can teach their customers about what type of fix or fixture is needed for each problem. It has eliminated stress from customers who have visited large retail stores and bought the wrong part, Cindy said.

"One of the reasons we opened this showroom was to teach. We had a lot of people who were going and buying faucets and not realizing [what] they needed," she said. "It's been great. Everybody has said, 'I'm so glad you told me.'"

The couple has enjoyed building their company on hard work and customer service, and they enjoy working for Georgetown residents.

"It's a small community. I love it here," Steve said.

In the future, Brittain Plumbing hopes to continue expanding while keeping its customer service at a small-town level. And as always, all jobs will be done as the Brittains would want it done themselves.

"We try to do unto others as we would wish to have done [to us]," Cindy said.
