Carroll ISD students and community members will honor fallen classmates Paul and Mason Ledet at a community vigil at Dragon Stadium tonight.

Seventeen-year-old Paul, a junior at Carroll Senior High School, and 13-year-old Mason, an eighth-grader at Carroll Middle School, died in a plane crash Saturday along with their father and uncle, 60-year-old Dr. Leonard Ledet and 62-year-old Gregory Ledet. The foursome took off early Saturday from Northwest Regional Airport in Roanoke, headed to Mississippi for the Texas A&M-Ole Miss football game.

The plane flown by Dr. Ledet, who practiced dentistry in Southlake, was diverted because of severe weather soon after take-off, and air traffic controllers lost radar and radio contact with the plane about 25 miles southeast of Terrell. The downed plane was spotted in a Van Zandt County pasture later that night.

"The family thanks everyone for their thoughts and prayers — particularly the prayers — during this difficult time," said a statement released by the Ledets through Carroll ISD. "They ask that you please respect their privacy as they grieve the loss of their loved ones."

The vigil will be held about 9:15 p.m. this evening following the Homecoming Pep Rally. Students will lead the vigil with assistance from area church leaders, and attendees are invited to wear maroon ribbons in honor of those lost.

In addition to the vigil, Carroll ISD has made counselors available to grieving students.
