Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union just opened its Austin administrative services center, but its leadership is already eyeing additional expansion in the area with four new branches in the works.

The new center, located at 11911 Burnet Road just north of IBM's Austin campus, will provide mortgage lending and small-business lending for its members and training for its employees. The center has a small branch inside where members can receive assistance on their accounts and other credit union needs.

"It's a statement of Randolph-Brooks' commitment to Austin," said John Kelly, executive vice president for operations and planning.

Aside from opening a new branch just down the road at The Domain at 10712 Burnet Road in early 2013, Kelly said RBFCU is planning a location on Slaughter Lane in South Austin and looking for a site near MoPac and West Hwy. 290. RBFCU just purchased land for a branch in Dripping Springs, he said.

"Within the last few years, we've made a strong effort to develop much more of a presence in Austin," Kelly said.

At the Aug. 1 ribbon cutting, CEO Randy Smith said that RBFCU is committed to keeping jobs in the Austin area. RBFCU opted to open a small call center at the administrative services center instead of sending the call center overseas to save money, he said.

"Our mission is to make life more comfortable [for our members]," Smith said. "Everything we do is designed by our people."

RBFCU started in 1952 at the Randolph Air Force Base outside of San Antonio. The base was named after Capt. William Randolph, an Austin native.

RBFCU is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative. The credit union has 13 branches in the Austin area with more than 75,000 members and 150 employees, 50 of which work out of the new administrative services center.

"This is the heart of operations in Austin," Smith said.
