Congressman John Carter-R, District 31

With 76 percent of the vote in unofficial results, incumbent John Carter won the Republican nomination for U.S. House of Representatives District 31. Carter beat Georgetown resident and business owner Eric Klingemann, and will run against Stephen Wyman in the November election.

District 31 encompasses Bell and Williamson counties.

Carter, a resident of Round Rock, was elected to Congress in 2002. While in office, one of Carter's priorities has been focusing on active duty military members and veterans. He sits on the subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee that allocates resources to the military and veterans.

On May 15, President Obama signed into law a bill sponsored by Carter to rename a post office located at 500 W. Whitestone Blvd. in Cedar Park to Army Specialist Matthew Troy Morris Post Office Building. Spc. Morris, 23, was killed when his vehicle hit a makeshift bomb April 6, 2008, in Balad, Iraq.
