The Georgetown ISD board of trustees approved a lease agreement March 26 with the Boys & Girls Club of Georgetown for use of McCoy Elementary School on Williams Drive as a second club location.

The lease agreement allows the Boys & Girls Club to use the campus' gymnasium, nearby computer rooms and restrooms, a metal building with four classrooms and two restrooms. The club will also have access to the outdoor play area and garden in August.

The club will pay the district $1 a year for use of the building and will be responsible for utilities. According to the agreement, the club will pay the district a fixed amount that has not yet been set, and the district will make payments to the utility company.

The school district will be moving out of the building into the new McCoy campus on Bellaire Drive, which is scheduled to open for the new school year.

The lease agreement is for one year, and the club may begin the lease before August if the district is able to vacate the school before Aug. 15, according to the agreement.

Georgetown ISD Superintendent Joe Dan Lee said the agreement is a win-win situation for the district and the club, but that the lease was written to the district's advantage.

"I applaud the district and the Boys & Girls Club for finding a unique solution," Place 7 trustee Brad Smith said, adding that an agreement between the club and the district had been in the works for a while. "Tonight is a culmination of hard work and a lot of effort."
