Georgetown City Council will consider a resolution to cancel the city's May elections at a future meeting. Only two candidates filed for places on the May 12 ballot, including District 1 incumbent Patty Eason and Jerry Hammerlun, who will take Pat Berryman's District 5 seat. Berryman did not seek re-election.

"It was an easy decision [to run for council]. No. 1 I think Georgetown is the greatest place in the state of Texas," Hammerlun said. "The incumbent was leaning in the direction of not running again. I started doing my homework and research and decided it was something I thought I would be good at. I decided to do it to give something back to the city, which has been great to my family."

Hammerlun lived in Georgetown from 1992 to 2003 when his job took him to Fort Worth. In January 2011, he and his wife moved back to Georgetown into the Berry Creek neighborhood. His children are graduates of Georgetown High School, he said.

A partner and CFO with architecture, engineering and management firm Huckabee, Hammerlun said he plans to work on economic development and hopes to improve the development process.

"I've been involved in the architectural side of getting things built in Georgetown," he said. "I think we can be a little more supportive of that process and help people accomplish what they want to accomplish on the construction side. I think they do a great job, but I think we can always do better."

Hammerlun said he is also focused on keeping the Georgetown tax base balanced between commercial and residential development.

Eason, who also serves as mayor pro tem, will begin her fourth term on the council. As a councilwoman, Eason also serves on the Lone Star Rail District board of directors.

Hammerlun and Eason will both represent new district boundaries as well. City Council approved the new district maps after a redistricting process last year. To view the district map, visit https://files.georgetown.org/2012/01/council-district-maps.
