Leander Police Chief Don Hatcher will retire Feb. 29 after serving in the position for 14 years, according to the City of Leander.
Hatcher announced in January his intent to resign internally, stating it had been an honor and privilege to serve Leander. He previously worked for the Texas Department of Public Safety for 30 years.
City Manager Kent Cagle will appoint Assistant Chief Gregory Minton as interim chief.
Hatcher said he was proud of the men and women in the department and had complete confidence they will continue to provide professional and dedicated police service.
Hatcher obtained accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, according to the city. He oversaw a rapidly growing police department and programs such as National Night Out, Seniors and Law Enforcement Together, the Leander Citizen's Police Academy and the explorer program.
Hatcher's retirement announcement comes on the heels of news that Cedar Park Police Chief Henry Fluck would resign effective Dec. 31.
