At its fourth annual celebration banquet Feb. 23, Dusty Nelms, chair of the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Georgetown, announced the club is tentatively planning to open a second location in McCoy Elementary School on Williams Drive by the 2012–13 school year. The club expansion is dependent on approval from the Georgetown ISD Board of Trustees, who are scheduled to vote on the issue March 26.
"The demographics show that there are as many kids on the west side as the east side that need us," Nelms said at the banquet.
Georgetown ISD is building a new McCoy campus on Bellaire Drive, which is scheduled to open for the new school year. Bradley Domitrovich, director of school and community relations, said the district is still working out the details of the agreement with the Boys & Girls Club.
"It's going to be great for the community and the kids on that side of town," he said.
The Boys & Girls Club has after-school activities during the school year and a summer program that operates from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
