Interim tax assessor named

Tina Morton was named Travis County's interim tax assessor-collector following Nelda Wells Spears' retirement Dec. 31.

Morton will serve in the role until a new one can be elected in November. The new assessor-collector will take office in 2013.

In a statement on the county's website, Morton writes that checks made out to Spears will still work during the transition.
