Construction to rehabilitate pavement and install sidewalks on nine streets in New Braunfels began in December and is expected to continue through 2021.
The streets are included in the $15 million New Braunfels Citywide Streets Improvement Program approved by voters during the 2019 bond election, with this portion of the program expected to cost $2.5 million.
Over the course of five years, the city plans to repair and improve more than 20 streets throughout New Braunfels.
Work began on S. Grant Avenue, E. South Street and S. Central Avenue on Dec. 14, and construction on the remaining streets will begin throughout 2021.
Streets that run near Lamar Elementary School will be under construction during the summer and include N. Houston Avenue, E. North Street, E. Commerce Street, N. Veramendi Avenue and E. Main Street, according to Assistant Capital Project Manager Charlie Blue.
“The goal is to do the bulk of the work around the school over the summer to minimize interference with school traffic,” Blue wrote in an email.
Information from the city states work is anticipated to be completed by Spring of 2022.
Pavement rehabilitation, milling and overlay that began on Lakeview Boulevard in November is also included in the Citywide Streets Project and is expected to be completed by Summer 2021.
