Details of the newly constructed Westside Branch of the New Braunfels Public Library grand opening have been announced by the city.

The community is invited to an event celebrating the 8,800-square-foot library branch on Sept. 16. The $5.5 million project was passed by voters in the 2019 bond.

The specifics

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by outdoor games, a petting zoo, food trucks and a DJ. A performance by Ballet Folklorico will take place at noon, and a foam cannon party will begin at 1 p.m. During the event, participants can paint ceramic tiles for a future wall installation and receive a limited edition Westside Branch library card.

“We are so excited to show off the newest addition to the New Braunfels Public Library system,” Library Director Gretchen Pruett said. “The addition of the Westside Library Branch gives so many more New Braunfels residents easy access to some amazing library amenities.”


A closer look

According to city officials, the Westside Library Branch offers over 15,000 books, DVDs, newspapers and magazines along with a state-of-the-art meeting room with audio and visual capabilities. The new branch also features a teaching garden, four study rooms, and a teen area with gaming technology. Public computers with high-speed internet as well as printing, scanning and faxing capabilities will also be available for use.

Additionally, the new branch includes a Family Place area for Play & Learn Workshops, children's early learning computers, and wireless connectivity throughout the facility. The Westside Library Branch will be open six days a week with a 24-hour book return and offer a variety of library programs for all ages, according to a news release.

A free shuttle to take those attending the grand opening celebration to and from the event will be available from the parking lot of Holy Family Catholic Church located at 245 S. Hidalgo Ave., according to city officials.
