On March 18, New Braunfels Utilities suspended late fees and disconnections for customers experiencing financial difficulties as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Now, as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s plan to reopen the state continues and businesses are able to reopen gradually, NBU plans to resume collecting late fees and enforcing disconnections.

NBU will reinstate these penalties July 1. Customers with past-due balances should call customer service at 830-629-8400 to discuss payment options.

“Getting this information out to our customers is important so they can prepare and make payment arrangements, if needed," Chief Communications and Strategy Officer Melissa Krause said in a press release.

Customers with past-due balances have until June 30 to set up a payment plan, and residents who honor their payment arrangements will have late fees forgiven until their account returns to good standing, Krause said.

For residents in need of financial support, the NBU Utility Bill Payment Assistance Program, a partnership with the New Braunfels Food Bank, can be accessed online.
