New Braunfels entered Stage 1 for drought restrictions on Sept. 1 for the second time this year, according to a New Braunfels Utilities press release.

The drought restrictions were triggered when the Edwards Aquifer water level dropped to 659.8 feet.

Residents are asked to limit their use of sprinkler or irrigation systems during Stage 1 restrictions, though the use of hoses, buckets and drip irrigation systems are still permitted at any time.

Sprinkler and irrigation systems may be used once a week according to the following schedule based on home address:
  • Addresses ending in 0 or 1 may use systems on Monday.
  • Addresses ending in 2 or 3 may use systems on Tuesday.
  • Addresses ending in 4 or 5 may use systems on Wednesday.
  • Addresses ending in 6 or 7 may use systems on Thursday.
  • Addresses ending in 8 or 9 may use systems on Friday.
Restrictions go into effect immediately, and residents can find more information about drought restrictions and local water levels on the NBU website.
