There are two trustee positions up for election in New Braunfels ISD on the May 4 ballot, including Single Member District 3, currently held by President Eric Berquist and Single Member District 5, which is currently held by Secretary Steve Minus. Both positions serve three-year terms on the board.

The details

The board of trustees voted to call the election during the Jan. 8 regular meeting. NBISD is accepting applications for the positions until Feb. 16.

The board is also discussing a potential $313 million bond election for the May ballot, which would fund Phase 2 of the New Braunfels High School redesign, a competition stadium and track at Long Creek High School, and various other projects throughout the district.

“The reason we're calling it separate from the bond is, they really need to be separate ... the filing opens up middle of January for these positions so we want to go ahead and get it out there,” NBISD Chief Financial Officer Paul McLarty said.

Zooming in

According to McLarty, all voting locations will be located within Comal County due to the boundaries of districts 3 and 5. NBISD is comprised of seven single-member districts. A map of the single-member districts can be found here.

More information on applying to serve on the board of trustees can be found on the district’s website.
