Paul E. McLarty was named the new chief financial officer for New Braunfels ISD.

“I am so excited to be joining the outstanding New Braunfels ISD team,” McLarty said in a statement. “The rich tradition and outstanding academic success of this district, and the opportunity to contribute to its future success, literally brought me out of retirement. I look forward to meeting the entire team, and community, when I start July 12th.”

The background

According to the district, McLarty has over 44 years of financial experience. He began his career as an accounting analyst and has held manager and vice president positions in private- and public-sector organizations. In 2000, McLarty entered the education sector and took on executive leadership roles for Galveston ISD, Goose Creek CISD and Clear Creek ISD.

McLarty retired from Clear Creek ISD in 2022 and began serving as a policy and research associate for the Texas Association of School Business Officials. McLarty received a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Texas A&M University and a Master of Business Administration in finance from the University of Houston. McLarty holds numerous Texas school business certifications and has won budgeting awards from the Government Finance Officers Association and the Association of School Business Officials International, according to the district.


A closer look

In his new position, McLarty will be responsible for directing and managing the operation of all financial and business affairs of the district, including accounting, payroll, purchasing, risk management and tax collection. He will also serve as the chief financial adviser to the superintendent and the board of trustees, according to a news release.

“McLarty will be a huge asset to our district’s leadership team. He will continue to ensure our district's financial success while improving on areas with a knowledgeable approach,” NBISD Superintendent Laurelyn Arterbury said in the news release. “His leadership background and extensive experience makes him an exceptional choice for the role of chief financial officer.”
