The New Braunfels ISD board of trustees received a design presentation for Carl Schurz Elementary School from architect and design firm CORGAN on May 8.

The renovations are being funded by the 2018 bond.

According to the presentation, the project’s objectives are to:
  • Bring the school up Texas Association of School Boards standards;
  • Improve safety and security campuswide;
  • Provide equity; and
  • Plan for the future needs of the campus.
The proposed site plan includes the following renovations:
  • New fire line from Coll Street;
  • New building;
  • New parking lot and fire access drive;
  • Modified play area and fields;
  • Three temporary portable locations; and
  • Improved fire access drive and visitor parking.
Next steps

After the construction documents are finalized, there will be a bidding and procurement process. Renovations will commence toward the end of 2023 and continue through 2025.
