Members of the Church Hill Middle School, Canyon Middle School, Canyon Lake High School, Memorial Early College High School and Smithson Valley High School CyberPatriots were recognized Jan. 30 by the Comal ISD board of trustees.

All five teams qualified to compete in the CyberPatriots National Semi-Final Competition.

CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air Force Association with the goal of inspiring K-12 students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Competitions take place virtually with students finding and fixing cybersecurity vulnerabilities in virtual operating systems. Teams are scored by how secure they make the system within a set window of time.

In 2019, the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps' CyberPatriot team from Canyon Lake High School won first place in the Silver Tier Semifinals of the All Service Division of the competition.

According to the school district, this year's semifinals took place Jan. 24-25, and scores will be announced in the coming weeks. The national finals will be held March 19-23 in Maryland.
