First opening the restaurant on Walnut Avenue in April of 2013, the business saw tremendous success with the popularity of its fresh cuisine and opened a second location in Creekside in 2021.
Owner Israel Trevino has been in the restaurant industry since he was 14 years old and said he loves the creativity involved with owning a business, and the challenges that occur with the day-to-day operations of the restaurant.
“I tried out the banking industry when I graduated [from Texas State University] for a couple of years and just realized that the restaurant was my passion,” Trevino said. “The customer interactions and creativity that come with owning your own restaurant and coming up with unique items. Even though we’re a Tex-Mex restaurant. I feel like we have some really unique items on the menu that just focus on quality. So I enjoy that.”
The menu at Las Fontanas is a mixture of Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican food. The restaurant offers traditional and freshly made margaritas made with agave nectars and fresh seafood from the Yucatán Peninsula.
“We've got a wide variety of items on our menu—we offer over 100 items,” Trevino said. “And we try to stay consistent and not just at the Walnut location but at Creekside as well. You know you're not gonna find these items anywhere else.”
Customers can enjoy their authentic street tacos and freshly made flour tortillas, rice and beans made with recipes passed down in the Trevino family. Israel works alongside his father and son at the two Las Fontanas locations.
“We're always trying to innovate our service, our products, our systems, and we try to keep it fresh for customers, not just the food but just the way we do business,” Trevino said.
