On March 25, Comal County hospitals reported zero cases of COVID-19 among patients for the second day in a row. No patients with COVID-19 have been in a local intensive care unit or required the use of a ventilator since March 17.

As area hospitalizations and case totals continue to decline, the county announced March 24 that the public health department would no longer release daily coronavirus-related updates.

Beginning April 1, the county will release a weekly report, including the number of new cases, number of deaths, total number of cases reported since the beginning of the pandemic, hospitalizations and the percentage of county residents who are vaccinated.

“With the rise in home-administered testing and lower number of cases reported by medical facilities, we feel a weekly report gives a more accurate snapshot of the COVID-19 activity in our county,” said Cheryl Fraser, public health director for Comal County, in a press release. “Should there be a new strain or outbreak that affects our residents, we can always go back to a daily report for as long as it’s necessary.”

On March 25, the county reported 14 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the county total to 30,618 since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

The county reported 77 new cases from March 21-25, down from 116 reported the week of March 14-20.

An additional two coronavirus-related deaths were also reported in the county this week, one of which was a Spring Branch man and the other was a New Braunfels woman. A total of 545 coronavirus-related deaths of county residents have been reported.
