The filing period for the May 7 elections in New Braunfels opened Jan. 19 with several City Council and school board seats up for bid.

New Braunfels City Council seats in districts 1 and 2 are up for election this year and are held by Shane Hines and Justin Meadows, respectively.

Hines has held his seat since filling a one-year vacancy in 2018 and winning election for his first three-year term in 2019.

Meadows was first elected in 2016 before winning r-election in 2019. He is now eligible for a third term following voter approval in 2021 that extended council member term limits.

Comal ISD single-member districts 6 and 7 are up for election this year and are occupied by Marty Bartlett and Cody Mueller, respectively.


District 1 and two at-large positions in New Braunfels ISD will also be on the ballot in May and are held by Keith Smith, Wes Clark and David Heefner, respectively. Clark serves as the board president and Heefner is the board secretary.

All applicants must be registered voters and must have resided in their filing district for at least six months prior to filing. City Council applicants must have lived within city limits for at least one year prior to filing.

The filing window will remain open to prospective candidates through Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. Applications for the City Council positions must be submitted at New Braunfels City Hall, located at 550 Landa St. between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Applications for NBISD and CISD must be delivered to the NBISD Education Center at 1000 N. Walnut Ave. or the Comal ISD Support Services Building at 1404 I-35 N. by the application deadline.


The final day to register to vote is April 7 and early voting is scheduled to begin April 25.
