The city of New Braunfels on Aug. 19 announced the reorganization of the schedule used by city officials to appoint new members to 31 local boards and commissions.

Previously, appointments were made throughout the year by the City Council. Through the revised system, appointments will now be made twice a year.

Appointments included in the spring term will end on May 31 of each year, and new appointments will begin on June 1. Fall term appointments will end on Nov. 30, and new appointments will begin Dec. 1.

“The realignment of the schedule for appointing members to City Council’s boards and commissions is designed to be more efficient administratively,” New Braunfels City Secretary Caitlin Krobot said in a statement. “The new process will make it much easier for our staff to communicate to the community when there are openings available on the various boards and commissions, and gives us the opportunity to advertise those opportunities more effectively.”

Some boards and commissions, such as the planning commission and the ethics commission, will not see any change to their appointment schedule.

The heritage commission, airport advisory board, arts commission and more will be appointed in the spring. Appointments for the library board, New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation, parks and recreation board, and more will be made in the fall.
