“Once I figured that all out, I thought, ‘Man, it would be a huge hit in New Braunfels,’” Chase said.
A closer look
Tipsy Cow is a family-owned ice cream shop that opened its doors to the New Braunfels community in May 2018.
The ice cream shop specializes in homemade, alcohol-infused ice cream flavors, such southern pecan pie, vanilla bourbon and Bailey's salted caramel. Chase noted they add the alcohol into the machine as they make it, so it serves more as an ingredient. He emphasized customers will not get "drunk" eating their ice cream.
"There's a fine line and a fine balance of how much [alcohol] you can put in to make sure you can still scoop it," Chase said.
Tipsy Cow also has kid-friendly flavors, such as cookies-n-cream and vanilla, along with milkshakes, floats and dairy-free options.
What’s special about it?
Chase’s son, Grant, posted a TikTok video of him and his dad making their Bailey's salted caramel ice cream, which went viral in February 2022.
Grant said he didn’t expect the video to go viral.
"February was the busiest month we'd ever had, and usually it was July," Chase said.
After going viral, followers begged the shop to ship their ice cream, and Tipsy Cow happily obliged.
Chase said shipping their ice cream was a “trial and error” process. The father-son duo found different coolers and placed different amounts of dry ice in each cooler to see how much they would need to preserve their ice cream for 48 hours.
“One of the things we had to do was buy a blast freezer to get the ice cream down to 27 below zero,” he said.
One more thing
Chase said a second Tipsy Cow location will open at 1705 S. Walnut Ave. in the spring, and he hopes to expand the menu to include ice cream sandwiches. The second location will have more indoor seating, a larger kitchen and a larger storage area. Chase said they may also have more Tipsy Cow merchandise, such as cups, shot glasses, T-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts.
