Hound Haus started out as a COVID-19 project, but due to supply chain issues and shortages, it was challenging, according to owner Jeremy Cason. Cason said he had to shut the construction process down for three months, and in July 2020, when the business started up again, he had difficulty finding materials and workers.
“A lot of the dog-specific stuff, like your kennel doors and things like that, they were all tied up getting built, getting materials. It was just a challenging time,” owner Jeremy Cason said. “But once we got going, it came pretty fast. There was definitely a need, especially out in this direction.”
Cason’s kids also help run the family business. But recently the Hound Haus has expanded past just family, adding veterinarian Codi Gerth and executive groomer Jamie Dalrymple.
The name Hound Haus stemmed from Cason’s appreciation for—among other things—alliteration.
“I just like alliteration and felt like it needed to be German since it’s New Braunfels,” Cason said.
Aside from being family owned and operated, Hound Haus is unique compared to nationwide animal care corporations, such as PetSmart and PetCo.
“We’re a smaller business, so I feel like we can give more attention to detail and more attention to your little fur baby—more so than other places can,” he said.
Cason said he does not feel there should be levels to care.
“We do one price, and that gets your dog as much attention and love that we would treat our own dogs,” he added. “It’s not lost on us that people let us take care of their family members, and we always try to do our best and will continue to do so.”
