Jesi Lindeman is one of the many New Braunfels residents who spent their teenage summers working at Schlitterbahn and other local institutions, but now she is the proud owner of her own shop in Gruene.

Lindeman opened Guadalupe Vintage & Co. in Oct. 2020, and offers a variety of vintage and locally made products, including clothing, hats and plants, as well as accessories such as boots, belts and jewelry. It even carries a selection of records from Stingray Records.

To source her wares, Lindeman relies in part on a network of vintage vendors and pickers, and she spends a large part of her time traveling to view and select the products she will sell.

Although some may be used, items are thoroughly cleaned and refreshed before being displayed. However, Lindeman said signs of wear can add charm to some of her store’s offerings.

“It’s got character; distressed is what we call it,” Lindeman said. “Sometimes the more distressed and the older the item is, the better it makes it.”

Some of the more nostalgia-inducing pieces of clothing to be offered include a rare Willie Nelson raglan baseball tee and a never-worn antelope leather two-piece suit from the now defunct Cutter Bill’s Western World, which closed in Dallas in 1985.

Lindeman said shoppers were likely to find a better deal on these and other items in her shop than on online marketplaces such as Facebook or Ebay.

“They’ll find something [in store], and then they’ll go online and see if they can find it cheaper, but they don’t because I kind of price it around that area but a little bit lower,” she said.

Lindeman selects the clothing and accessories based on her own taste and style, which has been strong enough to land her styling gigs for Stetson photo shoots and local fashion shows.

The success of her business following her return to New Braunfels as an adult provides a source of local pride for Lindeman as well as her connections to other local businesses, which she honors with the “& Co.” in her business’s name.

“I’ve had a lot of help from these lovely people, my vendors in my shop, but I am really proud of myself for kind of creating this whole business and brand,” she said.
