Hazard, Young and Attea Associates, the firm leading the search process, conducted an online survey to clarify the criteria it should seek when reviewing superintendent candidates, receiving input from more than 1,000 individuals.
In a report to the board of trustees, HYAA wrote the leading concern raised was the fast-growth nature of the district and that GISD’s next leader should have expertise in that area.
Additionally, the top overall competencies selected for the next superintendent include recruiting and retaining personnel; fostering a positive and professional climate; establishing a culture of high expectations; providing transparent communication; providing guidance for curriculum and instruction; and demonstrating a deep understanding of educational research and emerging best practices.
The board is expected to hold interviews throughout June and July, with a goal of announcing a lone finalist before August.
