Brett La Bissoniere, a seventh grade science teacher at West Ridge Middle School was named the Eanes ISD 2021 teacher of the year.
The announcement was made during the district’s annual employee recognition and retiree celebration May 6, which was live-streamed and held in-person with limited capacity, according to an EISD media release.
Annually, EISD announces nine campus educators of the year. The winners then undergo an interview process and members of The Westlake Rotary Club—who sponsor the award—serve on the selection committee.
La Bissoniere began her career at EISD seven years ago as a first-year West Ridge Middle School teacher. She not only serves as a science teacher but also as the science department head, track coach and National Junior Honor Society sponsor.
She has spearheaded a district program that raised $45,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society this year despite the pandemic, the release states.
The employee recognition celebration also honored 25-year teachers and recent EISD retirees, who had a combined 585 years of educating in the district.
