The filing period for Liberty Hill’s upcoming special mayoral election closed Feb. 23, and only two candidates are vying for the seat.

Current council member Crystal Mancilla and newcomer Devin Vyner will face one another in the May 4 special election for the mayor seat on Liberty Hill City Council. The special election is the city’s only contested race.

Whoever comes out ahead in the special election will fill the vacancy in the mayor position for the remaining term of May 4, 2024, through May 3, 2025.

Another detail

Due to all candidates running unopposed in the race for places 1, 3 and 5 on the Liberty Hill City Council, officials will consider canceling the May 4 general election during the Feb. 28 City Council meeting.

Jacquetta S. Thayer, Diane Williams and Wade Ashley were the only candidates to submit an application by the time the filing period closed Feb. 16 for the upcoming general election, causing them to run uncontested.
