Progress on the Leander Senior Activity Center continues to move forward after City Council unanimously approved an $8.8 million contract for construction services during its May 2 meeting.

"I just want to celebrate with you guys, I know it’s been a long time coming," council member David McDonald said at the meeting.

About the project

Amenities at the Senior Activity Center will include:
  • A lobby with a seating area
  • Library with a coffee cafe
  • Game room and large-screen TV
  • An activities room and multipurpose hall
  • Fitness center
  • Commercial kitchen
  • Special-use offices
The facility will be located next to the Leander Public Works building at 611 Municipal Drive, Leander.

While the start date is not yet available, city officials said construction will take no longer than 224 days once it begins.
