Leo's FunZone offers indoor play space, arts and crafts in Leander

Leo's FunZone, a locally-owned play space, craft studio and toy store, opened May 23 in Leander.

About the owners

Leo's FunZone is locally owned by Effy Yulghun and her husband. Yulghun said her own experiences as a mother of three inspired her to create a thoughtful, intentional space for children and families to play and learn. The space was carefully designed based on the owners' personal vision for the business, Yulghun said.

"It was all by ourselves. [Based on] my ideas and my husband's ideas, we worked together to build up the space, every single piece," she said.

What they offer

Leo's FunZone offers play areas for children of different age groups, including an area for toddlers, a set of wooden play buildings for children under 6, and craft and DIY activity spaces for older kids. Activity options include a wide variety of handmade crafts, as well as Legos, puzzles, a 3D printer and more. Leo's also sells a curated selection of toys both in-store and online.

Yulghun said several elements of the business were designed with parents' comfort and convenience in mind, from a private, quiet nursing room to free beverages.

Diving in deeper

Yulghun and her husband built much of the space themselves, she said, from the wooden play structures to the wicker basket hot air balloons that hang from the ceiling.

Throughout the business, Yulghun said she avoided using plastic wherever possible, opting instead for wood and other natural materials. The colors are muted with prominent earth tones to promote a calm, peaceful environment, she said.

What parents should know

To access the play areas and DIY spaces, families can purchase a day pass, or a membership that offers multiple passes for a discounted rate. Memberships also include access to events like free movie nights, Yulghun said.

Leo's FunZone also hosts birthday parties. For birthday parties, the store will be closed to the public and the entire space will be reserved for the party, Yulghun said.
