The Village of Volente and the Brushy Creek River Utility Authority will hold a town hall community meeting on June 10 at the Volente Fire Department. The BCRUA will present the citizens of Volente with an update about its deep water intake project and how it will affect residents, Volente Mayor Ken Beck said. The project will pump water from Lake Travis to a water treatment plant in Leander, and the water will flow through tunnels underground in Volente. “They’ve identified where they intend to dig the tunnel underground, and they need to acquire right of way easements,” Beck said. As the project continues, all landowners with property above the planned line will receive notice and an outside firm contracted by the BCRUA will negotiate the right to complete survey of the land, Beck said. The survey will determine how the line would affect the property. The BCRUA will then acquire 50-foot easement rights to the land, which Beck said would include a financial transaction with the property owner. Wells cannot be constructed within the easement, but BCRUA General Manager Tom Gallier said that will be the only restriction. Citizens are “concerned that it could impact their water supply, so the BCRUA is going to be explaining what they’re going to do,” Beck said. Gallier said that the BCRUA has been working “very closely” with the Village of Volente. “They’ll be encouraging anyone who’s interested in the area to come by and sit in and listen,” Gallier said. The meeting will take place at 10 a.m. at 15406 FM 2769, Volente. More information can be found at www.villageofvolente-tx.gov.
