The Leander ISD board of trustees has scheduled a special meeting for 6 p.m. Aug. 15—the first day of school—to officially hire superintendent finalist Bruce Gearing. A welcome reception for Gearing is scheduled after the meeting.

The meeting will be held in the LEO Conference Center at 300 S. West Drive, Leander.

Gearing has spent the past seven years as superintendent of Dripping Springs ISD, where he was named the 2019 District 13 Superintendent of the Year and oversaw the district grow 50% during his tenure, according to a news release by LISD.

He replaces Dan Troxell, whose last day with LISD was July 31. Troxell accepted a job as the deputy executive director of the Texas Association of School Boards.
