1. Leander City Council hears concept for walkable downtown development
Leander’s developing downtown may gain offices, a parking garage, apartment complexes, townhomes and a hotel. Last week, Leander City Council heard a presentation by developers Tynberg LLC about ideas for the city’s transit-oriented development district, which was created to encourage pedestrian-friendly residential and commercial development.

2. Texas House bill seeks to halt new CTRMA projects until access roads are built along Toll 183A in Cedar Park
A bill before a Texas House committee last Thursday morning could halt work on several planned toll roads around the Austin area until access roads are built along Toll 183A in Cedar Park. Were the bill to become law, it would affect several projects planned by the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, which coordinates transportation planning for six counties in Central Texas.

3. Leander ISD board approves social skills curriculum for K-5 students
Leander ISD will launch a districtwide social skills curriculum program for the 2017-18 school year after approval last Thursday by the board of trustees. Trustees approved about $325,000 to be spent on the Second Step curriculum in kindergarten through fifth-grade classes.

4. Leander Library is holding a book sale today, Aug. 7

5. Leander closes Middle Brook Drive entrance from Bagdad Road Monday
The entrance to Middle Brook Drive at Bagdad Road closes today, Aug. 7, and will remain closed through October, according to the city of
Leander’s website. South Brook Drive is a suggested alternate access point for drivers, according to the city’s website.
