Troy Powell will not be the next city manager of Leander.

Powell notified the city of Leander Aug. 15 that he is withdrawing his city manager candidacy for "personal reasons," according to city spokesperson Mike Neu.

The city will continue its search for selecting a new city manager, Neu said.

On Thursday afternoon, Powell wrote in an email to Community Impact Newspaper he was honored to be considered a finalist for the position and feels “Leander is heading in an extremely positive direction.

"Whoever the Council selects as their next city manager will be coming into a supportive community that has endless potential and a tremendous history to build upon," Powell wrote

Leander City Council voted unanimously Aug. 13 to select Powell, currently the city manager of The Colony, to be Leander’s next city manager. An employment agreement had not yet been negotiated or finalized.
