The city of Bee Cave has taken its first steps toward laying out a plan for improvements to Bee Cave Central Park.

The overview

A resolution was passed unanimously by the Bee Cave Development Corporation at an Aug. 26 meeting that allowed the board’s president to execute a professional services contract for park improvements.

“This [resolution is] the first initial start of the project,” City Manager Julie Oakley said at the meeting. “We don’t even have an initial cost of the total project yet, [which] this will help us define, as well as the layout of where a new parking lot would be and any kind of culverts or water quality or drainage aspects.”

The first phase of the project will involve creating a preliminary engineering report, according to city documents. This report will address extending the Bee Cave Central Park’s main access driveway from its current end point to an existing pedestrian bridge at Freitag Creek.

The background

The Bee Cave Development Corporation’s Economic Development Strategic Plan was adopted June 24 and included a commitment to funding several capital improvement projects, Oakley said. One of these was infrastructure improvements for Central Park.

According to the strategic plan, upgrades to the park will include improvements for driveways, parking areas, signage and striping as well as stormwater management, detention facilities and water quality infrastructure.

“These improvements aim to revitalize Central Park and enhance the surrounding Recreational District, improving functionality, accessibility, and the overall visitor experience,” the plan states.

What’s next?

The city will need to hold a 60-day waiting period following the resolution’s approval to receive public comment, Oakley said.

Bee Cave City Council will also later need to provide final review and approval of the project’s plans, Oakley said, although a specific date for this review was not shared.
