Toward the end of April, construction will begin on Camp Craft Road and Eanes School Road in the Westlake area to improve the drainage systems and eliminate low water crossings over Eanes Creek.

At a West Lake City Council meeting on April 10, officials laid out details of the construction process, including a rough timeline and traffic changes to expect along each road.

What residents need to know

Camp Craft Road will close immediately following the last day of school on May 26 and remain closed until Aug. 2.

Prior to the closure, drivers can expect temporary, one-lane reductions during nonpeak traffic hours on portions of Camp Craft Road and Eanes School Road as drainage improvements are added.

To accommodate these changes, a temporary speed limit of 20 mph will go into effect on April 14, and construction will begin shortly after, according to a city spokesperson.

Project manager Vicki Ortega said the contractors are working with local schools and Eanes ISD to ensure the project will be mostly finished before the beginning of the school year.

The bigger picture

The Camp Craft Road and Eanes School Road project is intended to reduce road closures during flash flood storms.

It is the first project within a $7.9 million improvements bond package passed by voters in 2021.

Other plans do not have a set timeline yet, but involve the following roads:
  • Redbud Trail
  • Westlake Drive
  • Laurel Valley Road
  • Yaupon Valley Road
