The Lake Travis ISD board of trustees named Curtis Null as the lone finalist in its superintendent search during a special board meeting May 1.

The details

Null has been superintendent of Conroe ISD since 2018 and has 23 years of experience in the district as a deputy and assistant superintendent, principal and assistant principal, teacher, and athletic trainer.

"I feel like we've hit the lotto," trustee John Aoueille said. "It was a phenomenal group of candidates that were interviewed. ... I think Dr. Null is going to bring an absolute incredible energy, focus [and] heart."

How we got here

Former Superintendent Paul Norton joined the district in August 2020, and the board voted to accept his resignation during a special board meeting Feb. 7.

The vote came after the board placed Norton on administrative leave effective immediately during a special meeting Dec. 17 following allegations of misconduct. Board president Erin Archer later said at the Feb. 7 meeting that the complaint against Norton "did not relate to students or district finances" and that a third-party investigation had closed.

The board then appointed Steve Flores as interim superintendent during a special meeting Feb. 26. Flores served as the superintendent of Round Rock ISD and Harlingen CISD for 13 years, and interim superintendent for Pflugerville and Taylor ISDs during the 2023-24 school year.

Next steps

Per state law, the board must observe a 21-day waiting period before officially calling for a vote to hire Null.
