The Lake Travis ISD board of trustees unanimously voted to purchase a $4.5 million plot of land off Bee Creek Road during its May 18 meeting.

Located at 4528 Bee Creek Road, Spicewood, the parcel is roughly 25 acres and will be used for future educational facilities, according to the district. The district approved the superintendent or a district representative to move forward with negotiations in March.

The land will be paid for out of the district’s 2018 bond and is located near Lake Travis Middle School, off the roundabout at Bee Creek Road and Highlands Boulevard. A timeline for the project has not been announced; however, district officials said they must move quickly on this property to alleviate overcrowding.

The new elementary school will provide relief to Rough Hollow Elementary School, which is the only elementary school in the district already over capacity in the 2021-22 school year. Rough Hollow Elementary has a total capacity of 850 students and has 897 students enrolled, according to district documents. In the 2022-23 school year, the projected enrollment for the school is 1,057.

LTISD is accepting student transfer requests until May 27 for parents who wish to transfer their students from Rough Hollow Elementary to another elementary school in the district.

With the exception of Bee Cave Elementary School, students may be transferred to any other elementary school in the district, if space permits. Bee Cave Elementary has the second-highest enrollment of the elementary schools in the district, with 825 students out of its 850 student capacity. The projected growth for Bee Cave Elementary in the 2022-23 school year is 935 students, according to district documents.
