As of April 29, graduation ceremonies for LISD’s six high schools are still scheduled for May 28 and 30 at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
Due to coronavirus concerns, LISD’s high school principals and administration have for weeks been discussing alternatives to the original commencements, according to LISD officials.
According to LISD spokesperson Matt Mitchell, the district’s plan to recognize LISD’s class of 2020 will be sent out to LISD families by email through the district’s weekly update on May 1.
At past meetings, LISD trustees and staff have discussed either postponing the ceremonies or moving them online. Austin ISD has postponed its ceremonies until August.
LISD, as well as other districts, typically holds its graduation commencements at the H-E-B Center. The current LISD graduation schedule is:
- May 28: Cedar Park High School, 4 p.m.; Vandegrift High School, 8 p.m.
- May 30: Leander High School, 8 a.m.; Rouse High School, noon; Vista Ridge High School, 4 p.m.; Glenn High School, 8 p.m.
Abbott said officials will continue to monitor state data over the next several weeks with hopes of implementing the second phase of reopening as early as May 18.
Businesses allowed to open in Phase 1 would be able to increase their capacity to 50%, and the list of businesses allowed to operate would expand around May 18 as long as the virus remains contained, Abbott said.
