Leslie Barstow, a history teacher Four Points Middle School, was the recipient of a $1,000 grant from George Washington’s Mount Vernon, the organization that maintains George Washington’s home and offers resources that teach children about U.S. history.

Grant funds were used for supplies to teach students at Four Points Middle School about the U.S. Constitution during Freedom Week on Sept. 18-22. Allison Wickens, Mount Vernon vice president of education, visited the school Sept. 15 to kick off Freedom Week.

“George Washington’s leadership during the creation of the Constitution provides a great model for students who are learning the best way to be a citizen in their own communities,” Wickens said in a news release.

Four Points Middle School is one of four schools in Texas to be awarded the grant.
