With a slogan of, “feed the people,” the idea was to make people happy with food.
Robert Siller came in as a co-owner in the first week of Texas Honey Ham Co.’s opening and had worked with Hunt at Rudy’s Bar-B-Q. Siller has about 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry, having worked in restaurants since he was 19 years old. Siller said when the store first opened, it just sold ham and then expanded its business.
“We started off to be a ham store to sell honey hams. Well, people don’t buy honey hams all year round,” Siller said.
The business started out with five sandwiches on the menu, but Siller helped to expand the menu and keep up with neighborhood demand.
“Once we started doing breakfast, it’s kind of where I started throwing more of my restaurant skills in there,” Siller said. “We started doing breakfast tacos and breakfast rolls ... pancakes and different sauces.”
The menu offers a variety of options for dining, from sandwiches and salads to soups and homemade sides such as apple slaw, baked potato casserole and potato salad.
There are many choices for breakfast ranging from traditional breakfast plates to tacos. The restaurant also serves their own version of pigs in a blanket, with a pancake wrapped around grilled honey ham.
Along with its signature honey hams, the restaurant sells roasted turkey breast, glazed deli ham and ham bone by the half-pound. Catering is available for breakfast items, sandwich platters, box lunches and more.
Siller said the owners and employees enjoy serving their customers.
“We’re here ready to serve people, and we like to give back to the community,” Siller said.
