Here are the latest developments that are underway or will break ground in 2022 in the Lake Travis-Westlake area.

Senior housing development to open this spring

The Reserve at Lake Austin, a 109,843-square-foot senior living community under construction, is scheduled to open in spring 2022 at 6401 RM 2222, Austin.

Executive Director Jeremy Lander said the goal is to allow residents to move in during May, he said. The Reserve will have 120 units, including some studios. The welcome center at 3600 N. Capital of Texas Hwy. offers information about services, including independent living, assisted living and memory care.

Village at Spanish Oaks construction continues


Construction will continue throughout 2022 on the 80-acre Village at Spanish Oaks development that began in November 2020. The CCNG Inc. and Greenbrier Southwest Corp. development will have office, retail, dining, a hotel and a spa, according to development documents. Totaling 1,200 acres, the Village At Spanish Oaks is the final phase of the Spanish Oaks Development.

Covert dealership progressing in development

The initial phase of the Covert car dealership on Hwy. 71 will be complete in 2022. The Covert family plans for the dealership to contain storefronts for Buick, Cadillac, Chrysler, Dodge, GMC and Jeep, Covert Austin Principal Partner Philip Robinson said. GMC and Cadillac showrooms will likely open first, followed by the Jeep showroom, he said.

The Backyard set to break ground early 2022


Construction on the multiuse development The Backyard is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2022. Scheduled for completion in 2024, The Backyard will include a 3,700-seat Live Oak amphitheater, a dance hall, a hotel and shopping. The development will offer 12 different food, beverage, music and culture options across the property.

New private school campus to break ground in spring 2022 in Bee Cave

The International School of Texas will break ground in spring 2022 on a new 40,000-square-foot main campus located at 15506 W. Hwy. 71, Bee Cave.

The new campus will be built on the same site as the existing middle school, which school officials acquired land for in 2020. Elementary students are still located on the school’s original campus at 4402 Hudson Bend, Austin. The new development will house both middle and elementary students on one campus.


Austin to break ground in 2022 on fire station in Westlake off Loop 360

Construction will begin in 2022 on a fire and emergency medical services station located on Westlake Drive just west of Loop 360.

The $14.1 million project is estimated to be completed in March 2023, according to a memo issued by the city of Austin’s Public Works Department on Dec. 30.
