The Texas Department of Transportation is holding a groundbreaking ceremony for one of its larger mobility projects in western Travis County.

State and local officials will be on hand at a lot at 10815 RM 2222 to kick off the improvements project, which will add extra lanes to the heavily trafficked thoroughfare from Bonaventure Drive to Ribelin Ranch Drive, a release from TxDOT states.

The groundbreaking will be Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m., and the construction, called the RM 2222/RM 620 improvements project, is expected to be completed by summer 2020, weather permitting. It is one of two improvement projects taking place in the area and adds a center median with turn lanes to RM 2222. The $23.6 million project is being funded by TxDOT and the city of Austin and is contracted to Capital Excavation Company, according to the release.

The second project is expected to go out for bid this summer and will add a bypass lane from RM 620 to RM 2222, the release states.
