Read more.  4. August was 14th consecutive month of Texas job growth The Texas economy grew in August with the addition of 5,500 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs. The unemployment rate increased slightly across the state, but decreased compared to 2016. Learn more. 5. West Lake Hills City Council asks developers for plans for vacant property Developers will have until Nov. 20 to submit proposals for a vacant city property on Westlake Drive. Originally, the city requested proposals be submitted by Sept. 19, but the deadline was extended last week. Find out more. 6. Voter registration low on priority list for Texas principals, report shows A report released by the Texas Civil Rights Project found numerous Texas principals do not comply with a law requiring them to request voter registration forms for eligible students twice a year. Gateway to Falconhead development set to open in Lake Travis area next month Multi-use project Gateway to Falconhead—over 17 years in the making—is scheduled to open in October with its first tenant, Bon Sushi. Central Health lowers tax rate for 2017-2018 If the new rate is approved by Travis County Commissioners Court, county residents will pay a Central Health tax of 10.6583 cents per $100 valuation in fiscal year 2017-18.
